SomethingDope ForThePeople Pulls Up To Bakersfield!
Get to know SomethingDopeforthePeople, a platform that gives independent artists a place to grow. The KILJOY crew got an inside look at their first event in Bakersfield.
The event was hosted at 1912 Chester St. on Feb. 29, known by some who know the city well as the Room 82 Lounge. The venue was enjoyable, a clean fun atmosphere with a lot of good energy, drinks for guests, and the lights and sounds to make it a night to remember!
Jeremy, the host that night, brought positivity to the stage. He lent his support and jokes to the crowd and performers and filled the whole room with encouragement, saying,
“Believe in the magic that will make it happen!”
At the event, we spotted Kasandra Hinzo, a confident new artist proud to call Bakersfield her home “I’m very excited to be here! I came to raise my family up and help everyone at home times ten.” she said.
Prominent names KILJOY has uncovered before made their appearance again at the lounge that night, giving a little more insight into their story. Hunny, Supreme Innovation, and Chuck: the Hometown Hero all were present and were killing it! We met even more new faces as well. Something Dope gave us the opportunity to meet T Davis, Scene City, and Arté Gallo.
Corey Slabs from the collective Scene City said, “I'm here with my collective Scene City, we're trying to build a community here in Bakersfield.” Similar words of banding together were heard from several other entertainers and artists alike. There was a common goal to unite and uplift.
Jeremy made it known that Bakersfield’s voices would no longer be in the shadows, stating “One thing I'm a part of is to bridge the gap between two cities, LA and Bakersfield.”
Everyone there was nothing but love and support for each other, there were people vibing to the music others created, people dapping each other up, and being comfortable in the space these guys created for them to network.
Open mic night shook the streets of Downtown that night with all of the passionate performances. Some unreleased songs were shared exclusively for the event, stories were shared, and inspiration was flooding the room.
