Got enough metal in your life? Don't be a poser, go check out the Suicide Forest’s scene!
With a strong discography of three albums and one single, this metal band from Arizona is known for their atmospheric sound and depressive expression. With songs like “Reluctantly”, “Kingdom of Solitude” and “Lucis Absentia” they bear a wide range of sounds from dirty to angelic. They’ve toured in cities like Vegas, Reno, Oakland, and Bakersfield, so naturally KILJOY had to give them some love.
Suicide Forest was discovered by our photographer David Coston Apr. 24 at Jerry’s Pizza. David had this to say about them, “This shit was pretty dope!”
The surprise says it all. Who expects good food and entertainment like that on a Wednesday night?
This band just had to be hunted down to find out more.
Mia: Mind if I ask you a few questions? How has the theme of depression inspired you write a darker version of the metal genre?
SF: Suicide Forest certainly isn’t the first band to explore sadness, grief, or depression within music. Inspiration has come from other artists, and bands before. And that led to making music inspired by that and related to our own experience.
Mia: Have you discovered any new passions since you've started your music career?
SF: Not so much discovering new passions, more exploring or investigating existing passions, reaffirming them. If anything new, it would enjoying time with the band in the van.
Mia: What got Suicide Forest started? What was it like on the way to the birth of this band?
SF: Suicide Forest started in 2016 as a one man band, with everything written and recorded by one person. Demos and EPs were released and the band quickly grew into a live band, allowing for shows, and touring. All members were in other projects previously.
Mia: In which city would you say you had the most unique experience?
SF: On this tour, Bozeman Montana. We played a union hall, with the stage upstairs and a radio show happening downstairs. There was crowd surfing which was a first for us to see from an audience.
Mia: Would you like your merch to be promoted in our magazine?
SF: Sure
Mia: Thank you for taking the time to respond, I hope to hear from you soon!
